In Loving Memory

Shadow needed a home after her human mom (Shirley "Petie"
Garlow) passed away from lung cancer. Petie was a little firecracker
who loved her "Shad", as she used to call her, and I felt honored to
be allowed to care for such a beautiful girl. Shadow was very shy at
first and hid most of the time, but the other pets in the house were
very patient and she eventually came out of her shell. She was super
kissy and sweet and especially liked to lick our foreheads. Shadow
really liked her dogs ("Bicycle" and "Tiberius") and loved her kids
(Natalie and Siera). She had her own room and enjoyed sleeping
under Natalie's comforter. Shadow had a not-so-secret crush on Dave
(I think it was mutual) and she loved to cuddle with him. Because I
knew Petie, I had a special bond with "Shadow" and loved to hold
her the way Petie used to. She would look at me with the most
hopeful eyes.
As I pet Shadow and went to feed her one day, I noticed her bowl
was unusually full and she was pretty quiet...again, unusual for her.
The next day brought us the news from the vet...she had a mass on
her lower jaw (most likely cancer). This precious lady seemed to be in
a lot of pain and still was trying to kiss us and love us as much as she
could.
As soon as I woke the next morning, with her by my side , I knew
her body was too sick to continue. Her mass had spread since the
night before (almost doubled in size) and she looked so sad.  We
decided to have her euthanized that afternoon with her family
present (Jen, Dave, Natalie, and Siera). She went to sleep peacefully
in Jen's arms as she listened to us tell her how beautiful and sweet
she was. Shadow will be missed greatly and joyfully remembered for
her gentle spirit and her forehead kisses...
